LVMH and Kering are each trying to rally luxury players to subscribe to their corporate responsibility and sustainability schemes. Chanel, which signed up to Kering's Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, has since switched allegiances to LVMH in the hope of influencing the auditing schedule for its supply chains.

The eternal rivalry between luxury giants LVMH and Kering acquired legendary status during their battle to buy Gucci in the 1990s. But that duel is gradually being eclipsed by the tug-of-war between the Bernard Arnault-led group and hotel giant Accor in the high-end hospitality sector.
