On Monday 28 September, Matières Fécales opened Fashion Week with a show at the Place de la République in Paris. Entitled The Ninety Nine Percent, it featured 99 ethnically diverse models in an implicit critique of the world's richest 1% and culminated in two models being crushed beneath papier-mâché billionaires. Glitz understands that the total bill came to around €500,000, but it was seemingly worth it – the critics loved it, Rick Owens was in the front row, and Rihanna made a surprise appearance.

The concept store and incubator founded by the Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons is in difficult financial straits. Though it has set fashion trends for two decades, the group's French subsidiary has lost over €17m in the last two financial years. To keep its head above water, its founders Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe have been cutting costs as well as staff.
